Holly Mount Roman Catholic Primary School

Nurture, Encourage, Love

Welcome

Welcome from Headteacher – Mrs E. England

Welcome to our school website. It has been designed to tell you about the community that is Holly Mount R.C. Primary School and to show you some of the people and events that shape the school year. Whether you are one of our own parents or are just visiting our site, please feel welcome to browse its pages. I hope you get a picture of our community life in all its richness.

We are proud to be a Catholic School. We have a treasure of truth to share with our children. The treasure is the giving of knowledge and skills; the building of confidence and character; the development of self esteem coupled with a religious and moral sense. Our school building has had a rich and varied history - it is set in a beautiful environment that we do our best to maintain. Within the walls is a big family that cares for one another. We seek to nurture young minds and characters, building confidence and skills that will equip our pupils for the future.

Mission Statement

At Holly Mount RC Primary School, we aim to develop happy, confident and caring young citizens who are well-prepared for the future. Working together, our mission is to nurture and motivate all within our Catholic community encouraging self-worth and love of life.

Our Vision and Values

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.

Catholic Religious Education is the “core of the core curriculum” (Pope St John Paul II) and the foundation of the entire educational process. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum, recognising that every pupil is unique and created in the image of God (Gen1:27). Our curriculum is designed to enable every pupil to flourish academically, spiritually, emotionally and socially, discerning his or her own vocation in life.  We support the development of future citizens who are concerned for the greater good of society – and are well prepared to make a positive contribution.

We provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities and pride ourselves on strong pastoral support. We incorporate democratic principles, value the rule of law, support individual liberty and foster a community in which different faiths and beliefs are respected. During assemblies we explore and discuss themes, make links with our learning and explore moral messages. Love one another as I have loved you (John 13:34-35) encapsulates the important message to treat others as we would wish to be treated.  Tolerance, forgiveness and respect are strongly promoted.

School Council projects enable pupils to shape school improvements and lead whole school activity, listening to the ideas of peers and representing them in meetings.

Our positive behaviour strategies enable children to make decisions that benefit others – not just themselves. House systems, Special Friends in Reception and Year 6; rewarding children and giving responsibilities such as Prefects and Class Helpers further develop the communication and interpersonal skills which are essential to living a happy and fulfilling life not just in modern Britain but as a global citizens.

The children in our care deserve a first-class education during their time here so that they reach their academic potential; develop a thirst for learning; make friends, play fairly, laugh, love and leave knowing they were part of this very special school that is Holly Mount.
