SUMMER TERM 2019
Mrs Holly's Class - Hedge Planting in Holly Mount Orchard
After assembly on Friday morning, our class went to the Orchard to help plant hedges with Manchester City of Trees.
As part of the City of Trees project, we were invited to contribute to the mission of planting hundreds of thousands of trees around Greater Manchester.
Trianna from Manchester City of Trees met us and talked about trees and their purpose. We all listened carefully as she taught us how to plant trees by looking after the delicate roots and how to use a spade safely.
We then went off into groups to dig , plant and mulch a hedge of beech trees. We found lots of worms, worm eggs, beetles, spiders, snails and even a frog! One group found a roof tile and we have taken it away with us to make into a plaque to commemorate our tree planting.
We all chose someone living to honour, or someone who had died to remember with our trees. It was a very appropriate task after celebrating All Souls’ Day with Mrs Kenyon’s assembly.
