Curriculum Intent

At Holly Mount Catholic Primary School, our curriculum is rooted in our Catholic faith and inspired by the Gospel values of love, respect, compassion and service. We believe that every child is a unique gift from God, created in His image, with individual talents, interests and aspirations. Our mission is to nurture children so that they flourish academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally, developing the knowledge, skills and values they need to succeed in school and contribute positively to society.

We are committed to providing an ambitious, broad and balanced curriculum that enables every child to achieve highly and fulfil their God-given potential. Through high expectations, inclusive practice and rich learning experiences, we inspire children to become confident, resilient and independent learners with a lifelong love of learning.

Our curriculum is designed to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their starting points, acquire the essential knowledge, skills and vocabulary they need to succeed. Learning is carefully sequenced so that new knowledge builds upon prior learning, enabling children to know more, remember more and do more over time. We place great importance on developing strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics whilst ensuring that all subjects are valued and taught with equal ambition.

The National Curriculum is enriched by our Catholic ethos and the distinctive character of Holly Mount. Through meaningful learning experiences, pupils make connections across subjects, deepen their understanding of the world and develop the confidence to question, explore and think critically. We want children to be curious learners who are enthusiastic about discovering more and who can apply their learning in different contexts.

Inspired by Catholic Social Teaching, our curriculum encourages pupils to understand their responsibilities within local, national and global communities. We promote dignity, respect, justice and compassion, helping children to recognise the importance of serving others and caring for our common home. Through this, pupils develop a strong moral compass and an appreciation of the diverse society in which they live.

We strive to ensure that every child experiences success, challenge and joy throughout their time at Holly Mount. We want our children to leave us as articulate communicators, thoughtful and reflective individuals, responsible citizens and well-rounded young people who are fully prepared for the next stage of their education. Above all, we want them to leave with cherished memories, strong values, lasting friendships and the confidence to make a positive difference in the world.
